We understand that many patients feel anxious and nervous when they go to the dentist. If you’re nervous about seeing a dentist, you’re not alone. Dental phobia affects thousands of patients in London. It can range from minor anxiety that leaves you feeling uncomfortable in the treatment chair right through to a full-blown phobia that prevents you from visiting dental clinics.

For most people, dental phobia results in nothing more than a racing pulse and sweaty palms. But for others, the fear can be enough to deter them from seeking desperately needed treatment.

Wherever you are on the scale, rest assured that the phobia-friendly team at Stokenchurch Dental, helps you put aside any nerves. We offer a comfortable and relaxed experience that’s unlike any other dentist you’ve experienced

Many people avoid regular dental visits because of the stress and anxiety about the procedure. Our practice has specially designed interiors with soothing colour selection, and LCD screens showing relaxing videos.

All the staff at Stokenchurch Dental Care are highly sensitive to the concerns of nervous patients and those with dental phobias. However, we understand that in certain circumstances, sedation may be a helpful option for those who are worried about their treatments.

How is it done?

With this method of conscious sedation, the sedative drug is administered by an injection into your arm or in the back of your hand. The onset of sedation is rapid and precise. The sedative makes you feel deeply relaxed.

You will be able to talk and cooperate with your dental team, but most people cannot remember much about their treatment. Before the sedation, your blood pressure will be measured and during treatment your breathing and pulse will be monitored.

Some people take a little time to recover and you will need to stay in the practice until you are able to walk by yourself. It is important that you have someone with you who can take you home and stay with you for the rest of the day.

After the Procedure

The effect of these drugs wears off quickly. You may not remember details of the procedure as the sedative drugs used cause amnesia. You will have to stay in the practice for a bit longer till the drug effect is completely gone. There are no long term side effects for these drugs.

There should be an adult accompanying you to take you back home and keep an eye on you for next 24 hours.

We offer this facility to those above 12 years of age, and only to those who are medically fit. We can assure you that the procedure is done safely and professionally at our practice.
